Linear Perspective

LNP101 | Foundations A | Tues + Thurs | 5pm-7pm

Instructor

Marshall Vandruff

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Linear perspective enables artists to create lifelike spaces by learning how the visual world works in volumetric space. Forced, one-, two-, and three-point perspective are covered in great detail. These perspectives enable students to build forms and environments in precise space. Linear perspective is a core foundation for image creation and once understood, students quickly learn to identify what is wrong with the spaces and forms they are creating. This class is important for figure work from imagination, building environments, and placing objects in images in ways that compositionally and structurally "hold" the images together.

Learning Objectives

To train students to effectively understand the spatial working of the visual world about them. Through a solid grounding in the understanding of linear perspectives students will be able to build forms and environments in precise space.

Learning Outcomes

They will be able to build forms and environments in precise space and to place these forms in images that will compositionally and structurally “hold” the images together.

Course Requirements

Students will be issued a syllabus that will list the goals, projected outcomes, grading system, and any other resources the instructor deems necessary.
