COURSE DESCRIPTION

Head Painting covers the fine art of portraiture in both traditional and digital media. Students work with photography and life to create the skills needed to develop likenesses without reference material. Anatomy, structure, abstraction, value, color and more are used to capture the essence of the sitter or subject. Students will learn to process information in ways which enable them to create from life and imagination. This class will include cultural exploration of races as well as age groups.

Learning Objectives

The understanding of creating a likeness is essential for illustrators, painters and entertainment artists. To understand how light, form and color affect the structure of the head. Students will learn to properly pose and light the head to best describe form, mood and emotional content.

Learning Outcomes

To learn to properly light and pose a subject to create a likeness that capitalizes on the aesthetic and emotional visual possibilities. To explore all inherent visual possibilities in various media.

Course Requirements

Students will be issued a syllabus that will list the goals, projected outcomes, grading system, and any other resources the instructor deems necessary.

This course is required for all Illustration and Drawing & Painting students.

All TAD classes include live demonstrations, thought provoking lectures, relevant presentations, instructor and peer feedback and critique, with a conscious effort made for content appropriate for artists of all skill levels and trades, and applicable to the freelance artist as well as the corporate visual communicator.

All TAD classes are streamed live and then available 24 hours a day to students On Demand, enabling a fully flexible schedule for viewing the classes and getting the direct and personal feedback required to be successful. Live classes are scheduled according to Central Standard Time (CST), adjusted for Daylight Savings Time (CDT) during the summer months.
