Cast Drawing

ECD201 | Elective | Wed + Fri | 2pm-5pm

InstructorS

Johnathan Hardesty & Dorian Iten

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Cast Drawing introduces the student to the most foundational concepts of making successful representational art through sound draftsmanship. This method of learning to draw has been used effectively throughout history in the Italian, French, and Russian tradition. Many of the famous artists such as J. C. Leyendecker, N.C. Wyeth, and John Singer Sargent, also learned in this fashion.

Learning Objectives

Objectives throughout the length of this course help students to learn to handle the charcoal medium, maintain proportion in a drawing, successfully employ values and edges in proper relationship to one another, while at the same time allowing students to develop finishing techniques that improve their skills at creating polished images from life and imagination.

Learning Outcomes

This class will build patience and control, two skills necessary to create fully finished and rendered images. Each stage of the process must be grasped fully before moving on to successive stages. By the end of this class students will complete the most accurate and visually realistic drawing from life they have ever done.

This course is required for all Entertainment 2D students, and is available as an elective for all other TAD majors. Prerequisite is FRM101.
