COURSE DESCRIPTION

Still Life painting incorporates the basics of composition, drawing, textures and use of various media. By painting from life, photo-reference and imagination students will learn to set up, compose with shape, and establish mood with lighting, thus controlling the entire image making process. Numerous image presentations and demonstrations provide students with an aesthetic understanding of all aspects of picture making, extending throughout their learning experience at TAD.

Learning Objectives

Objectives throughout the length of this course help students to learn to handle the charcoal medium, maintain proportion in a drawing, successfully employ values and edges in proper relationship to one another, while at the same time allowing students to develop finishing techniques that improve their skills at creating polished images from life and imagination.

Learning Outcomes

Through direct observation, manipulation of objects and composing of shapes, students will develop an intimate knowledge of spatial and aesthetic relationships between form and space.

This course is required for all Drawing and Painting students, and is available as an elective for all other TAD majors. Prerequisite is FRM101.
